2011 City Council Race – Early Vote Messages
Product: Live/Automated Calls
What We Did: FLS Connect recently participated in a run-off election for the Houston City Council’s At-Large Seat. The goal of our Live/Auto Calls was to use our Early Voting calls to increase the likelihood that supporters would vote for our candidate before Election Day. Research shows that when reminding voters about your candidate they are more likely to support your candidate, be it at the polls or in early voting. Our Early Vote calls used the power of voice to win voters before and on Election Day. Our conservative candidate for the Houston City Council At-Large seat previously had been unsuccessful in his 3 attempts of knocking off the incumbent Democrat in this position in years past.
How We Did It: However, the Live/Auto Early Voting calls done by FLS Connect reminded potential supporters of his proven record and plans for his position. The first of two messages was directed to voters urging them to head to the polls for an Early Vote opportunity to vote for our candidate. The second message, being directed to the same base a few days later, reminded the same electorate they had a just a few more days to head to the polls to cast their vote for Jack Christie. Throughout this campaign, FLS Connect delivered close to 34,000 messages in a race that had little over 55,000 voters. 15,940 of which were Live and 17,619 that were auto.
Results: Due to the Early Vote calls, our candidate was able to gain vast support and was just short of the Early Vote by a 161 vote margin. By doing two Live/Auto calls during the AB/EV vote period and as evidenced by the eventual wide win margin, supporters were gained and reminded of voting for our candidate twice over. This in return reminded voters of the needed support for Election Day and increased the campaign’s AB/EV voting returns.
Conclusion: Our City Council candidate ended up winning the contest by a staggering 5,688 vote margin. With these calls, our candidate was able to contact 62% of his future constituents. The campaign manager for our candidate, had this to say about the campaign: “We knew in this run-off that turnout would be low…the investment in Live Calls was absolutely essential to again defeat a Democrat incumbent in a city with majority Democrat voters.”
