What We Did: FLS Connect recently teamed up with Congressman Steve King to help in his 2012 Election efforts. Specifically, FLS provided our virtual townhall platform – Townhall Connect to talk to his fellow Iowans, right over the phone.
How We Did It: FLS gathered data and recordings from Congressman King’s Campaign to use for dialing. We also worked with Congressman King on loading specific polling questions to help gauge his district’s attitudes on certain subjects. From there, the campaign was able to be trained on the Townhall Connect computer interface to help facilitate the call’s functionalities in dialing, showing how many were on the call at any time, conduct polling, prescreening questions from participants and other functions.
Results: Congressman King was able to discuss national and state issues that really mattered to his voters along with personal Q & A sessions directly with a few participants. Our Townhall Connect platform was able to dial his entire district and overall have more than 5,200 voters on the phone with him with 300 voters staying on the phone for the duration of the 60 minute event – higher than the industry average.
Congressman King’s staff was also able to screen 42 voters for questions and a total of 8 polling questions were asked – a cheaper polling option for taking a snapshot of his district’s attitudes on various issues. An important note was the average voter for this call was on for 11 minutes with Congressman King – compare that to the Congressman being on the phone or doorstep with each voter over an 11 minute period, only here he did it as one task.

Conclusion: Congressman King used Townhall Connect to connect to voters who he would otherwise not be able to meet, right over the phone. This program along with its polling feature and Q & A capabilities helped him introduce himself to his new and old electorate. This event no doubt helped him learn about what is most important to his voters.
